We did not add to the Maintenance and tool funds because we were net negative.

We added a member in July, but only 21/34 members have paid dues.

Also, we are below our 3 month rent buffer of $4682.55.

I am working on getting subscription payment service set back up on Wepay and getting up a Square Cash account. Square Cash has a very low transaction fee (1.9%). For people who like to pay with Square, I can also now invoice them monthly.

  • If you ask-Transaction fees:
    • Wepay: 2.9% + .30
    • Square: 2.75% for swipe or invoice, 3.5% + .15 for manual entry
    • Square Cash: 1.9% (people have to use Square Cash app)

  • Scott H.

Talking with three companies about corporate sponsorships. Also in discussions with the Durham city council for financial support.

  • Shaw T.

Met with Caleb Sheehan and shared statistics about our space (history, finances, demographics, equipment) for his hackerspace research, which he plans to publish openly later this summer.

National Night Out is the first Tuesday of August, and other tenants in the building are planning to host neighborhood people in the parking lot of our building. We should definitely join in on the effort. Discussion of security-related topics is recommended.

  • Darren B.

We received an inquiry from the general manager of the Duke Coffee House, who wants a Bullitron for the cafe. They offered to pay for the cabinet, but we countered with a proposal that they send some people to build one with us. Darren will meet with someone from the organization tonight to show them our cabinet at Fullsteam Brewery.

  • Elizabeth L.

Trying to figure out integrating Boy Scouts into a hackerspace environment. From age 11-18 several merit badge topics overlap with activites we do here (electronics, robotics, construction). Scott H. has had experience teaching scouts, and volunteers his prepared curriculum for some activities.

  • Jeff C.

Mentions Cory Doctorow's free online course on cyber security:
