Inexpensive 3-D printing has become accessible to hobbyists over the past few years. Several SplatSpace members own 3D printers, or are working on building their own printer. There is a long-standing goal to build a printer for the space, which would be available to all members for use... including - of course - for printing the parts for their own printer!
current status:
I (JSC) have a Makerbot Cupcake that has been upgraded to a stepper extruder. I also completed another cupcake which I donated to the Space and which has also been upgraded to a stepper extruder and also to 5D firmware. So the Space now has its own dedicated printer.
At least two other members have printers, I have a Prusa under construction, and another member is nearly finished with his Prusa.
