Using a 12" linear actuator, a bipolar relay, an Arduino, and an RTC ic, you can build a chicken coop door opener that adjusts open/close times based on seasonal sunrise/sunset.

Pictures/video forthcoming - it's really not that interesting to watch, as the 12" linear actuator takes maybe 30 seconds to open and close the door (otherwise it wouldn't be a door, it'd be a guillotine).
