BAND SAW SAFETY RULES AND GUIDELINES

  1. You MUST wear eye protection!
  2. Only persons on the “check-off” list may use this equipment without supervision.
  3. Do NOT wear gloves, scarves, jewelry, etc. Tie back long hair, roll up long sleeves.
  4. This band saw is intended for the cutting of wood; plastics; and with a metal cutting blade, soft metals: brass and aluminum.
  5. Observers should not stand to the right of this machine; broken blades will tend to fly to the right.
  6. Make sure all guards are in place before turning on the band saw. WITH THE SAW UNPLUGGED, check the blade tension and then plug in and run the saw briefly to ensure the blade is tracking properly.
  7. Bring the fence down to within ¼” of the material before cutting. This will stabilize the blade.
  8. Watch your fingers! Keep them at least 3” from the blade at all times. Use a push stick, scrap material, etc to keep from having to get close to the blade.
  9. Do not attempt to “back out” of a long cut while the blade is running. The friction will probably pull the blade off the pulleys.
  10. Only cut material that is flat-bottomed and that feeds reliably. If you must cut ROUND or IRREGULAR stock, please use some other option: hacksaw, Sawzall, etc.
  11. UNPLUG the saw before changing the blade or making any adjustments. Blade changing, clearances, etc can be tricky; as always, ASK if you are unsure or have any questions.
