London hackspace's safety rules are not particularly thorough, but a lot of people consider them the absolute reasonable starting place. Of particular interest though is the faceplant list, a list of warnings and gotchas about particular tools and areas.

General First Aid Kit

We have (and should keep stocked) a first aid kit hung on the wall by the main entrance.

We might arguably want one in the classroom area as well.

Should we do more with the basement than storage we might consider one there as well.

Workshop Trauma Kits

This is a very rough beginning guide on what sort of trauma kits we should have in the woodshop and metal shop, the two places that severe injuries are most likely to happen.

Trauma kits should be wall mounted at a height that is easy to reach both from the floor and while standing, or for differently abled members of the space.

Trauma kits should be *highly visible* -- nothing should be placed in front or near where a trauma kit is mounted.

A list of possible things said kit should contain is:

  • Magnifying mirror (5x)
  • Trauma shears
  • CAT7 Tourniquet, tourniquet holder, and red marker
  • Band aids
  • 2″x2″ gauze pads
  • Hyfin Vent chest seal
  • Nasopharyngeal airway (28 gauge)
  • Magnifying glass (5x)
  • Medical tape
  • Rolled gauze
  • Severed finger transport pack (ziplock bags, gauze)
  • Forceps
  • Eyewash solution (three 16-oz bottles)
  • Celox Rapid hemostatic gauze (3″x5′)
  • Israeli pressure bandages (4″ and 6″)
  • Opened Israeli pressure bandage (4″)
  • Tourniquet instruction diagram
  • 4″x4″ gauze
  • Magnetic flashlight
