I have a primarily academic background in basic research, specifically the molecular genetics of model fungal systems. I have a PhD in Microbiology and Molecular Genetics from Michigan State University. I am currently employed as a Bioinformatics Scientist, primarily involved in the analysis of next generation sequencing projects in a basic research setting in RTP. I am also involved in two DIY Biology projects. My primary involvement is running an active and established home based wet lab (roningenetics.org). Along with several others I helped co-found Triangle DIY Biology (tridiybio.org) almost two years ago. We are currently attempting to set up an active community based biology lab within SplatSpace.
